At the 2024 ACSP Conference in Seattle, Apil KC presented research titled “Rubble to Resilience: Evaluating Resident Satisfaction in Nepal’s Post-Earthquake Housing Reconstruction.” Drawing on 35 in-depth interviews conducted in the districts of Kavre and Sindhupalchowk during the summer of 2024, the study investigates how recovery strategies affect resident satisfaction. Supported in part by a Global Individual Grant, the research highlights the need for housing policies that accommodate local economic constraints and technical flexibility. The authors argue that adaptable implementation practices are essential to achieving housing outcomes that align with household needs, support livelihoods, and ensure thermal comfort. These dimensions emerged as critical to evaluating post-disaster satisfaction.
The presentation sparked vibrant discussions on equitable recovery practices during the session moderated by Dr. Aysin Dedekorkut-Howes of Griffith University, Australia.
